A Sunny Sunday Drive

I know today's not technically Sunday, but I took this drive on a Sunday, so it counts.

Today I traveled through the woods

While sat inside my car

And thought upon how things have been

And then, on how things are

The road was winding, long, and slow

And I had all the time

For though I'd many things to do

I'd pushed them from my mind

I spoke my burdens to the trees

They sent their whispers back

The sun shone down with all its warmth

And landed in my lap

The road traced round a little creek

The rocks in it stood high

I stopped to watch the water flow

And let a caterpillar by

Although I'd traveled down this road

A hundred times and more

Today I took its winding path

Much farther than I had before

Until, at last, a dead-end sign

The warning to me gave

And I, alas, turned round the car

Though I'd have rather stayed

And still I know it's not the end

The woods will still be there

Whenever I next want to go

And send my thoughts up as a prayer
